New Way to Tell Bedtime Stories with AI
If you're looking for an engaging way to spend story time with your kids before bed, I've discovered an unexpected use for chatbots that kids love - interactive bedtime stories!
I've spent hours conversing with chatbots, but recently I realized its storytelling abilities, while not perfect, are great for kids. Although my kids are now 18 and 22, back then, each night before bed, I used to choose their favorite characters and embark on an adventure with them.
Today, I would simply prompt Claude or ChatGPT with something like "Woody and Buzz have to climb a mountain with Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Ariel."
Above, Claude spun a quick tale of them working as a team to reach the top of a mountain. It's not the most complex plot, and character details aren't always consistent, but the kids can still engage in coming up with challenges for the characters to face.
The AI is still limited, but for kids, it provides enough of a story backbone for them to imagine the rest. Seeing their faces light up, and reliving favorite tales in a new interactive way, can be a really special family time before sleep. Chatbots make bedtime storytelling so easy and give kids agency in shaping the narrative.
If you have kids, it's worth a try!
