Learning Things Faster with ChatGPT and the Pareto Principle

In my "Learn to Learn" training sessions, I teach methods that help others learn anything much faster. One of the tools I teach is the Pareto Principle, also known as the 80/20 rule. The Pareto Principle states that, for many outcomes, roughly 80% of consequences come from just 20% of causes. In the context of learning, this means we should focus on identifying the vital 20% that leads to 80% of the desired skill.

ChatGPT can be immensely helpful in identifying this crucial 20% and creating effective learning plans based on it. In this blog post, I will demonstrate how to use ChatGPT as a learning tool by providing two examples: learning juggling and dog training, two things I actually learn now.

The prompt to copy (adjust XXXXX accordingly):

I want to learn XXXXX. Use the Pareto principle, which identifies the 20% of the topic that will yield 80% of the desired results, to create a focused learning plan for me.

Dog Training:

In my training, I used to advise people to consult experts to identify the 20% to focus on. However, with ChatGPT, the process has become so much easier. Now, we can ask ChatGPT to pinpoint the key 20% that will yield 80% of the desired results in any area.

If you're interested in learning more about ways to accelerate your learning journey, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Thanks for this. Very interesting idea. I am an ESL teacher and I tried using this approach to revise a course outline to ensure that it covers the most essential topics for beginning English speakers . I simply fed it the outline I had constructed and asked ChatGPT to evaluate it with the Parito principle in mind. It gave me very helpful feedback.
